River of Time

the river of time
flows quickly without mercy.
swim or get swept off

All the Simple Things

It used to be just about
         all the simple things
We never used to worry about
         what tomorrow would bring
Life was just so easy, we'd
         run free with no strings
We could fly with no wings
         finding heaven on the swings
Oh, whatever happened to those simple things

Seasons of Her

Like a spring flower,
I've seen her swell, bloom and glisten
Her shining beauty captivated me
So I was a prisoner to her gaze

Like a summer breeze,
I've felt her kiss, comfort, and embrace
Her warmth tightly enveloped around me
So I flowed playfully along with her

Like autumn leaves,
I've seen her lose color, wilt and fall
Her fragile form surprised me
So I collapsed along side her

Like a winter storm,
I've felt her rawness, chill and sting
Her frigid gusts repelled me
So then I broke free

With Bright Eyes

With bright eyes we look at the new day
Each moment fresh, novel and with so much to say

Life with its surprises puts a smile on our face
All we see, smell, and the delights we can taste
Unique visions fill our mind and the dull replaced
Greatness is within reach with increasing pace
Hope for even better days is warmly embraced

The truth we feel in our hearts now reigns
Have faith and never be bound by any chains
Emerge from slumber and feel the blood in our veins
Yell out the thoughts that we can no longer contain

So much in this life is left to do and to feel
Unfolding before us is a new plan, a new deal
For the road ahead is what we take and make real
From the old, we make new, the broken we heal
Embracing the destiny that only we can reveal
Remember that is up to us to define the ideal

Let Go

If you value your life, then you must let go
Hang on and the roots of your pain only grow
The stalk will soar, you'll lose sight of the ground below
Suffocate in the thin air, you'll reap what you sow

Let go of the past, and how you used to feel
Let yourself fall, be broken, so you can heal
Nurture a fresh seed, let it mature to ideals
Let in the light, the truth, and embrace what is real

Now, just let go before you find it too late
So, take back control and redefine your fate
Make fertile the soil and move on from the hate
Open your eyes, your heart, and wipe clean the slate

Let loose your grip, so you can pull out the thorns
Better to bleed now, than to always be torn
Burn now in the fire, but soon, come out reborn
Rise up from the ashes a new person, unworn

Let go.

Going Back

A warm breeze caresses my arm on a quiet summer night
All I can see is the area within reach of a single aged lamp post
The light claws out like a desperate dying solider dedicated to fight to his last breath
The night is too strong an enemy and the light can only stand a meager ground

And so here I stand, by myself, a ward of the light
As I wait at this stop, with two shadows cast--mine, yours
Soon we will board a train out of this war zone
where the darkness can no longer fight, can no longer reign
where we can forget about battle's lost, and remember only our better times
When we would play like a pair of butterflies in the glowing light of the sleepy sun
Floating together,we felt light, free of the burdens that later weighed us down
We were happy.

But, now you must go back to the comfort of your mother's arms,
having fought a good fight, we must part. I must go back too,
but not before our one last ride away from this cold, dark place.
The black is so blinding, I must close my eyes.
Now I look, I see a single moth flying, drawn to the flicker of a dying flame
My heart sinks, remembering the days I flew alone, searching for you.
To those days I must go back, returning as the soldier with battle scars
Your memory ingrained on my heart, on my mind,
as a bittersweet wound, and always a reminder
I must move on and I must go back.
